Test solutions Grade 5 : Multiplying and Dividing Fractions — Zyro the alien explorer of Planète Maths

Test solutions with the detailed point scale. Add up your points and spot what to review.

Suggested time: 45 minutes. Out of 20 points. Calculator allowed only when the problem says so.

1 Fractions as division / 3 pts

  1. \(7 \div 3 = \dfrac{7}{3} = 2\tfrac{1}{3}\) (1 pt)
  2. \(11 \div 4 = \dfrac{11}{4} = 2\tfrac{3}{4}\) (1 pt)
  3. \(2 \div 9 = \dfrac{2}{9}\) (1 pt)

2 Multiplying / 4 pts

  1. \(\dfrac{18}{4} = \dfrac{9}{2} = 4\tfrac{1}{2}\) (1 pt)
  2. \(\dfrac{45}{60} = \dfrac{3}{4}\) (1 pt)
  3. \(\dfrac{12}{72} = \dfrac{1}{6}\) (1 pt)
  4. \(\dfrac{10}{3} \times \dfrac{6}{5} = \dfrac{60}{15} = 4\) (1 pt)

3 Scaling / 3 pts

  1. Greater, because \(\dfrac{9}{7} > 1\). (1 pt)
  2. Less, because \(\dfrac{3}{7} < 1\). (1 pt)
  3. \(\dfrac{45}{56}\), and \(\dfrac{45}{56} > \dfrac{35}{56} = \dfrac{5}{8}\). (1 pt)

4 Dividing with unit fractions / 3 pts

  1. \(\dfrac{1}{20}\) (1 pt)
  2. \(7 \times 3 = 21\) (1 pt)
  3. \(\dfrac{1}{27}\) (1 pt)

5 Flower bed / 4 pts

  1. \(\dfrac{5}{2} \times \dfrac{3}{4} = \dfrac{15}{8} = 1\tfrac{7}{8}\) square yards. (2 pts)
  2. \(\dfrac{2}{5} \times \dfrac{15}{8} = \dfrac{30}{40} = \dfrac{3}{4}\) square yard. (2 pts)

6 Bag of rice / 3 pts

  1. \(8 \div \dfrac{1}{4} = 8 \times 4 = 32\) portions. (1 pt)
  2. \(\dfrac{3}{8} \times 32 = \dfrac{96}{8} = 12\) portions. (2 pts)
