  3. eight is \( 8 \)
  4. ten is \( 10 \)

Answer: 2, 5, 8, 10.

7 Which plate has five? ★★★

Answer: plate B.

8 A circle of flowers ★★★

Start at the ring and go around: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Stop when you are back at the ring.

Answer: \( 9 \) flowers.

9 Count the rows ★★★

Each row has three squares. There are four rows. Count row by row without starting over: one, two, three; four, five, six; seven, eight, nine; ten, eleven, twelve.

Answer: 3 squares in each row and \( 12 \) squares in all.

10 Count out eight ★★★

Ben says one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and then he stops.

Answer: he says eight, and the cup holds \( 8 \) counters.

11 Find the mistake ★★★

Kai skipped the number word four. He said six words, because six apples got touched, but the last word he said was seven. The correct count is one, two, three, four, five, six.

Answer: no. There are \( 6 \) apples, because Kai skipped four.

12 Match the groups ★★★

Group A has two counters, group B has six, and group C has three.

Answer: A matches 2, B matches 6, C matches 3.

13 Counting past ten ★★★

Count the first row: one to ten. Keep going in the second row: eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen.

Answer: \( 18 \) stars, and \( 2 \) more are needed to make twenty.

17 Twelve buttons ★★★

The number Ms. Ortiz wanted is twelve, and she said twelve as she placed the last button. The last number you say tells how many, so the jar has twelve. Zoe would need one more button to say thirteen.
