Test solutions Grade 2 : Measuring and Estimating Length — Zyro the alien explorer of Planète Maths

Test solutions with the detailed point scale. Add up your points and spot what to review.

Suggested time: 45 minutes. Out of 20 points. Calculator allowed only when the problem says so.

1 Choose the unit / 3 pts

  1. Centimeters, because a fingernail is tiny. (1 pt)
  2. Feet, because a pool is long. (1 pt)
  3. Meters, because a bus is very long. (1 pt)

2 Reading a ruler / 3 pts

  1. The ribbon starts at 1 and ends at 6: \(6 - 1 = 5\). The ribbon is 5 inches long. (2 pts)
  2. \(5 - 3 = 2\). The ribbon is 2 inches longer. (1 pt)

3 Units and comparing / 4 pts

  1. 1 foot = 12 inches. (1 pt)
  2. 1 meter = 100 centimeters. (1 pt)
  3. 3 feet is \(12 + 12 + 12 = 36\) inches. (1 pt) Since \(40 > 36\), 40 inches is longer. (1 pt)

4 Lena’s ribbon / 4 pts

  1. \(72 - 45 = 27\). 27 centimeters are left. (2 pts)
  2. \(27 + 19 = 46\). Her ribbon is now 46 centimeters long. (2 pts)

5 Shells on a line plot / 3 pts

  1. There are 3 Xs above 4, so 3 shells. (1 pt)
  2. \(3 + 1 + 1 = 5\) (three at 4, one at 5, one at 6), so 5 shells. (1 pt)
  3. \(6 - 2 = 4\), so the longest is 4 centimeters longer. (1 pt)

6 A walk along a path / 3 pts

  1. \(35 + 24 = 59\). Joe walked 59 feet. (2 pts)
  2. 59 is just 1 away from 60 and 9 away from 50, so it is closer to 60 feet. (1 pt)
