Test solutions Grade 2 : Data, Graphs and Line Plots — Zyro the alien explorer of Planète Maths

Test solutions with the detailed point scale. Add up your points and spot what to review.

Suggested time: 45 minutes. Out of 20 points. Calculator allowed only when the problem says so.

1 Playground tally / 3 pts

  1. Monkey bars: 2 groups of five and 4 lines, \(5 + 5 + 4 = 14\). 14 students. (1 pt)
  2. The smallest row is the sandbox, with 3 votes. (1 pt)
  3. \(11 + 7 + 14 + 3 = 35\). 35 students voted. (1 pt)

2 Birds in the park / 4 pts

  1. The jay row has 3 stars, \(3 \times 2 = 6\). 6 jays. (1 pt)
  2. Robins 10 and wrens 4: \(10 - 4 = 6\). 6 more robins. (1 pt)
  3. \(10 + 6 + 4 + 8 = 28\). 28 birds. (1 pt)
  4. \(28 - 10 = 18\), or \(6 + 4 + 8 = 18\). 18 birds. (1 pt)

3 Juice stand / 4 pts

  1. The Tuesday bar reaches 14. 14 glasses. (1 pt)
  2. Thursday is 6: \(14 - 6 = 8\). 8 fewer. (1 pt)
  3. \(8 + 14 + 10 + 6 = 38\). 38 glasses. (1 pt)
  4. Wednesday and Thursday: \(10 + 6 = 16\). Tuesday: 14. Since \(16 > 14\), Wednesday and Thursday together sold 2 more. (1 pt)

4 Rope lengths / 4 pts

  1. Count the X marks: \(1 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 10\). 10 pieces. (1 pt)
  2. The tallest stack is above 4. 4 feet. (1 pt)
  3. Longer than 4 feet means 5 or 6 feet: \(2 + 2 = 4\). 4 pieces. (1 pt)
  4. There is 1 X above 2 and 2 X marks above 3, and none above 1: \(1 + 2 = 3\). 3 pieces. (1 pt)

5 Draw a bar graph / 3 pts

Use a scale from 0 to 8 that counts by 2s. Give the graph a title such as “Favorite sports.” Label each bar. (1 pt for the title and labels)

The scale must count by twos: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8. (1 pt)

Number of students02468Hockey6Golf4Tennis8Rowing2

The bars must be 6, 4, 8, and 2 tall. (1 pt)

6 Seasons survey / 2 pts

  1. Known votes: \(6 + 4 + 3 = 13\). Then \(15 - 13 = 2\). 2 classmates chose winter. (1 pt)
  2. \(6 - 3 = 3\). 3 more classmates chose spring. (1 pt)
