  2. Write \(\dfrac{18}{30}\) in simplest form. (1 pt)
  3. Are \(\dfrac{8}{12}\) and \(\dfrac{10}{15}\) equivalent? Justify. (1 pt)

2 Least common multiple / 3 pts

Find the LCM of each pair.

  1. \(9\) and \(12\) (1 pt)
  2. \(5\) and \(7\) (1 pt)
  3. \(8\) and \(20\) (1 pt)

3 Adding and subtracting fractions / 4 pts

Calculate. Simplify your answers.

  1. \(\dfrac{3}{5} + \dfrac{1}{4}\) (1 pt)
  2. \(\dfrac{5}{12} + \dfrac{7}{18}\) (1.5 pts)
  3. \(\dfrac{11}{15} - \dfrac{2}{9}\) (1.5 pts)

4 Mixed numbers / 3 pts

Calculate.

  1. \(3\dfrac{2}{5} + 1\dfrac{7}{10}\) (1.5 pts)
  2. \(6\dfrac{1}{6} - 2\dfrac{3}{4}\) (1.5 pts)

5 Estimating / 3 pts

  1. Estimate \(\dfrac{4}{9} + \dfrac{11}{12}\) using the benchmarks \(0\), \(\dfrac{1}{2}\) and \(1\). (1.5 pts)
  2. Calculate the exact sum and explain why it is reasonable. (1.5 pts)

6 The bike trip / 4 pts

Marco rides \(12\dfrac{3}{4}\) miles on Saturday and \(9\dfrac{5}{6}\) miles on Sunday.

  1. How many miles does he ride in all? (2 pts)
  2. His goal for the weekend is \(25\) miles. How many miles short of the goal is he? (1 pt)
