Test solutions Grade 3 : Place Value and Rounding — Zyro the alien explorer of Planète Maths

Test solutions with the detailed point scale. Add up your points and spot what to review.

Suggested time: 45 minutes. Out of 20 points. Calculator allowed only when the problem says so.

1 Place value / 4 pts

  1. The 2 is in the tens place: it is worth 20. (1 pt)
  2. Nine hundred twenty-seven. (1 pt)
  3. \(927 = 900 + 20 + 7\). (1 pt)
  4. 92 tens + 1 ten = 93 tens, so 937. (1 pt)

2 Write the numbers / 3 pts

  1. 347. (1 pt)
  2. 805, with a 0 as placeholder in the tens place. (1 pt)
  3. 624. (1 pt)

3 Compare / 3 pts

  1. The hundreds are equal. Tens: 1 < 8, so \(618 < 681\). (1 pt)
  2. The hundreds are equal. Tens: 5 > 0, so \(450 > 405\). (1 pt)
  3. Hundreds: 2 < 3, so \(299 < 300\). (1 pt)

4 Order the numbers / 3 pts

The hundreds digits are 5, 3, 5, 3 and 9, so 953 is the greatest. (1 pt)

Among the numbers with 3 hundreds, \(359 < 395\) because 5 tens < 9 tens. Among those with 5 hundreds, \(539 < 593\) because 3 tens < 9 tens. (1 pt)

The order is 359, 395, 539, 593, 953. (1 pt)

5 Round to the nearest 10 / 4 pts

  1. The ones digit is 8: 40. (1 pt)
  2. The ones digit is 2: 150. (1 pt)
  3. The ones digit is 5: 710. (1 pt)
  4. The ones digit is 9: 900. (1 pt)

6 Round to the nearest 100 / 3 pts

  1. The tens digit is 1: 200. (1 pt)
  2. The tens digit is 5: 600. (1 pt)
  3. The tens digit is 7, so 9 hundreds becomes 10 hundreds: 1,000. (1 pt)
