Test solutions with the detailed point scale. Add up your points and spot what to review.

Suggested time: 45 minutes. Out of 20 points. Calculator allowed only when the problem says so.

2 Counting on / 3 pts

(a) 15, 16, 17. So \(14 + 3 = 17\). (1 pt)

(b) 12, 13, 14, 15, 16. So \(11 + 5 = 16\). (1 pt)

(c) 17, 18, 19, 20. So \(16 + 4 = 20\). (1 pt)

3 Making ten and near doubles / 4 pts

(a) 9 needs 1 to make ten, so split 7 into 1 and 6. \(9 + 1 = 10\) (1 pt). \(10 + 6 = 16\), so \(9 + 7 = 16\) (1 pt).

(b) \(9 + 9 = 18\) (1 pt). One more is 19, so \(9 + 10 = 19\) (1 pt).

4 Subtracting / 4 pts

(a) 16, 15, 14. So \(17 - 3 = 14\). (1 pt)

(b) 19, 18, 17, 16. So \(20 - 4 = 16\). (1 pt)

(c) \(9 + 4 = 13\) (1 pt), so \(13 - 9 = 4\) (1 pt).

5 Balloons at the party / 3 pts

(a) \(9 + 9 = 18\) is a double. Mia has 18 balloons. (1 pt)

(b) \(18 - 5 = 13\) by counting back: 17, 16, 15, 14, 13. (1 pt) Mia has 13 balloons left. (1 pt)

6 Compare / 3 pts

(a) \(8 + 8 = 16\), and 16 is greater than 15. So \(>\). (1 pt)

(b) \(12 - 5 = 7\). So \(=\). (1 pt)

(c) \(9 + 4 = 13\), and 13 is less than 14. So \(<\). (1 pt)
